Dustin Lance's Observations of Gary Coleman at his Criminal Hearing |
|
As Colt Rushton's attorney, I thought it was important that I attend Gary Coleman's criminal hearing in Payson, Utah, earlier this morning.
I arrived at 8:30, a half an hour before the scheduled start, and was immediately questioned by the numerous media personnel that were there for the hearing. Some wanted to find out how Colt was recovering, while others asked if Colt was faking it and still others wanted to discuss Colt's past and his criminal record. I told them that if Colt was faking he would probably allege more significant injuries. As for Colt's past, I guess you had better have a clean record if you want to make claims against Gary Coleman. Then again, Mr. Coleman doesn't have a spotless criminal record himself so what's the point. Oh well. Smearing the victim seems to be the primary defense tactic at this point.
I was suprised that Gary didn't show up on time for his hearing, instead, he showed up over an hour late looking quite disheveled Not exactly the best first impression for the Judge. I guess we will see what happens. The next hearing is scheduled for December 2, 2008.
In the mean time, we will continue to work on the civil case. Right now we are waiting for Paul Rohbock to file his Answer to the Complaint (Paul was served this past week). Since Gary and Shannon have already filed their Answer we are just waiting for Paul before we begin formal fact discovery in the case. I am looking forward to taking Gary's deposition and getting his version of events at the Payson bowling alley. No doubt it will differ drastically from Colt's. Thankfully, all of the witnesses I have contacted support Colt's version of events.
