Truck driver loses control in South Salt Lake Valley, is killed in crash

A dump truck driver was killed this morning when he lost control on the Bangerter Parkway in Draper and rolled his truck. Draper police say the truck went through an intersection and rolled down a steep hill. The driver lost control while trying to make a sharp turn near 400 East, crossing over into oncoming lanes and crashing into an embankment.

The truck, carrying fill dirt, flipped over the embankment and rolled numerous times down a steep ridge, eventually landing 150 feet from the road.

The 65-year-old driver was thrown from the truck and killed.

Officers don't know the exact cause of the fatal accident, but they did find brake marks at the top of the road.

They speculate the truck could have had brake problems or a mechanical issue. They also have not ruled out speed or an oversized load.

Bangerter Parkway in the area is closed in both directions.

Officers say this stretch of road has been problematic before with drivers not accurately judging the steepness of the hill or sharpness of the turn.
